        The virus continues to circulate because children are not or insufficiently vaccinated. The more the individual is age plus the more the disease may be associated with serious complications (neurological complications and / or respiratory ).

Rubella

        Rubella (viral infection) is usually mild and mainly affects children. The virus is not pathogenic for infant, child and adult. But rubella in pregnant women represents a risk for congenital malformations of the newborn. Outbreaks of rubella continue to occur in communities (schools, army ...). Not vaccinated pregnant women can then contract the disease and transmit the virus to the fetus. This transmission (materno-fetal) may cause severe eye defects, cardiac and / or neurological symptoms in the newborn.

        The MMR vaccine has contributed to a marked decrease in the incidence of mumps in France. However, like measles, mumps cases occur on average in later life, an age when the risk of complications is higher (meningitis, deafness, male infertility ...). Measles, mumps and rubella are often considered normal diseases of children. They may however be responsible for serious complications. To have these diseases in enfancy - is the only way to prevent the occurrence of cases in older children and young adults for whom the risks of complications are greater. The disease tends to disappear thanks to vaccination campaigns in industrialized countries. Indeed, the MMR vaccine allows a single injection to protect against measles, mumps and rubella. The MMR vaccine is not mandatory but highly recommended from 1 year especially for children attending kindergartens. Adults can also contract mumps as anyone not vaccinated or who have not previously had mumps.
